PTOC Sprint, Potluck Picnic, and Annual Meeting Report
May 23, 2009
Submitted by Dick Neuburger

There were only 25 participants in the Johnson County Community College Sprint on Saturday, May 23, 2009. Maybe it was the Memorial Day weekend or the hot temperatures (upper 80’s) that kept people away. But it was a successful event nonetheless.

Mike Shifman planned a 2.6-km course through the newly mapped area. Most of the run was on open land, but there was some wooded areas, rock features, railroad tracks, and college buildings to content with. Michael Eglinski was first, but not far ahead of the Barrett Boys (Matt and Joe), and Paul Clatterbuck. Angie Barrett led the women. But let’s give a lot of praise to Reta Roe who ran the event only 2 weeks after major surgery. And Mary Jones is still recovering from a foot injury.

About 25 enjoyed the great food at the Potluck Picnic. There was brisquet (sp?), potato salad, broccoli salad, fried chicken, strawberries, cake, and more! It was wonderful catching up on all the news.
At the Annual Meeting thanked our volunteers, elected a new Board Member to replace an old one, and elected some new officers. The new Board is: Angie Barrett, Casey Caughron, Kevin Shipley, Paul Clatterbuck, and John Clausen. The new Officers are: President, Dick Neuburger; Vice-President, Paul Clatterbuck; Secretary, Angie Barrett; and Treasurer, Reta Roe.

A special thanks to Bea Coleton for her many years as Treasurer.

Stay tuned. We are planning a Summer Sprint Series. There will be 6 to 8 events, each with one 2 – 3 km course in open park land or on trails in the woods. There may be awards at the end of the series, and there will be get-togethers after some events.
