Shawnee Mission Park Event Report

by Nick Hockman

The PTOC group felt a quick one hour mid-winter Score O would be appropriate for Shawnee Mission Park schedule this year. We never know what January will bring. Our original meet date was 01/14/07; however the heavy ice closed the park and most of Eastern Kansas. All the vetting tapes were set and course designed. We had been watching the forecast and held off printing of the maps and clue sheets. After some discussion it was decided to try again.
The meet was rescheduled to 02/04/07 and had a good attendance despite cold and a mid-week dusting of light snow, which helped with traction.
The course was designed with only 24 controls scattered from southeast to Northwest around Shawnee Mission Lake. The controls had values of 10, 20, 30, 40 points with a total of 600. Our intensions were no one would be able to finish all in the allotted hour. However Mike Eglinski was able to prove us wrong.
The meet was enjoyed by a good number of individuals and groups including the Monkeys and Bears of Boy Scout troop 136.
All went fairly smooth except for one slightly misplaced control in a wrong reentrant.

With the much appreciated help of our regular volunteers the results were tabulated, controls obtained. Everyone was off to enjoy the rest of a beautiful Sunday and settle back to watch the Super Bowl Game. Many thanks to all who attended enjoyed and helped to make this another successful PTOC event.
