Armstrong’s comments:.
Wow, what a
trot! I've really never put in the miles running to do the Goat events,
but bringing Anna was good incentive to get me to my 2nd Possum
Trot. However, being in minimal shape and especially the treacherous
footing with no spikes really did me in. I wore out physically at 3 hours
(perhaps around #23 to #25) and then collapsed mentally at 3.5 hours - bombing
27, 28, 29, and even 30. I could select a route and rough bearing - but
not hold it the bearing nor read features. But I finished! The only
thing that wasn't a problem was the temperature. I was pleasantly
surprised that my feet and hands were never cold. Ironically, my only
other trot (about 5-7 years ago) was in identical weather, but not the
ice.
Also, the
hot potatoes, hot chili, and hot cider were a hit at the end - did I mention
that they were hot? Even with the quantity, I'm surprised they stayed
that hot that long - long enough even for me. I was glad to see Dave
Welsh come safely - hope that the other 3-5 late ones came in near the 5 hour
limit.
